WELCOME!
Welcome to Leeds University Union Swimming and Water Polo Club! We are one of the University's largest and most popular sports clubs catering for well over 200 members each year, with opportunities for participants ranging from a once a week dip in the pool to keep fit, to taking part in the highly competitive Swimming and Water Polo BUCS (previously BUSA) teams. Whatever your level of involvement in Swimming and Water Polo, the club boasts a huge social scene, with weekly socials, notorious Otley Runs and even a couple of black tie dinners. The Club is always delighted to welcome new members whatever their level (providing you won't drown on us!) and is dedicated to providing a friendly and social atmosphere for both the swimming and water polo sides of the club.
Come see us at the Sports Fair during freshers week to find out more and sign up! The Sports Fair will take place at the University Sports Centre.

06/09/08 Paralympic Games
As you may know, the paralympic games is being held this weekend in Beijing, and I thought it may be of interest to some of you that we have a swimmer competing who is due to start at Leeds University this coming september. Claire Cashmore is British Champion at 100m backstroke and won two bronze medals at the Athens Olympics. She competes in the S9 category as she was born without a left forearm. I hope she will be getting involved with our team as it would be great to train with someone who has competed at this level. In the meantime, keep a watch out for how she gets on, as hopefully she will be joining us soon. If you want to see her updates and blog, you can view it at http://olympics.leeds.ac.uk/.

New Coach!
The club welcomes the arrival of coach James Richards from City of Leeds Swimming Club. James will be working closely with the competitive side of the swimming club this year and we hope to gain a wealth of expertise, enthusiasm and preparation for BUCS competitions this coming year!
Upolo!
This year sees the arrival of Upolo, a new British Universities Water Polo league. UPolo "aims to improve the standard of water polo in UK by giving university teams more opportunity to play at a competitive level." This competition ought to see a vast improvement in the level of competitive play for university teams, and gives the club more opportunity to play on a competitive basis rather than just playing weekly friendlies outside of BUCS competition time. Visit www.u-polo.com/ for more information or see the fixtures tab for dates!
